Abner pun mengirim beberapa orang utusan kepada Daud sebagai wakilnya dengan pesan Siapakah gerangan pemilik negeri ini Dia berkata pula Ikatlah perjanjian dengan hamba Sesungguhnya hamba akan menyokong tuanku untuk membawa semua orang Israel kepada tuanku

Sesudah itu keluarlah Yoab meninggalkan Daud dan menyuruh orang untuk menyusul Abner lalu mereka membawanya pulang dari perigi Sira tanpa diketahui Daud
