Eleazar anak Harun mengambil salah seorang anak perempuan Putiel menjadi isterinya dan perempuan ini melahirkan Pinehas baginya Itulah para kepala kaum keluarga orang Lewi menurut kaum mereka

Ketika hal itu dilihat oleh Pinehas anak Eleazar anak imam Harun bangunlah ia dari tengah-tengah umat itu dan mengambil sebuah tombak di tangannya

Kemudian berkatalah imam Pinehas bin Eleazar kepada bani Ruben bani Gad dan bani Manasye Sekarang tahulah kami bahwa TUHAN ada di tengah-tengah kita sebab tidaklah kamu berubah setia terhadap TUHAN Dengan demikian kamu telah melepaskan orang Israel dari hukuman TUHAN

Sesudah itu imam Pinehas bin Eleazar serta para pemimpin itu meninggalkan bani Ruben dan bani Gad di tanah Gilead pulang ke Kanaan kepada orang Israel lalu disampaikanlah berita itu kepada mereka

Tetapi Pinehas berdiri dan menjalankan hukum maka berhentilah tulah itu
