Lalu kepada Daud dikhabarkan demikian Ahitofel ada antara kalangan yang bersekongkol dengan Absalom Maka berkatalah Daud Ya Tuhan semoga Engkau gagalkanlah segala nasihat Ahitofel

Setelah itu berkatalah Absalom kepada Ahitofel Berilah kami nasihatmu Apa yang harus kita lakukan

Jawab Ahitofel kepada Absalom Hampirilah para gundik ayah tuanku yang ditinggalkannya untuk menunggui istana Apabila semua orang Israel mendengar bahawa tuanku dibenci oleh ayah tuanku kerana perbuatan tuanku maka semua orang yang menyertai tuanku akan dikuatkan keyakinan mereka

Kemudian kata Absalom dan semua orang Israel Nasihat Husai orang Arki lebih baik daripada nasihat Ahitofel Tuhan memang berketetapan membatalkan nasihat Ahitofel yang baik itu supaya Tuhan dapat mendatangkan malapetaka kepada Absalom

Setelah orang itu pergi kedua-duanya pun keluar dari dalam perigi lalu pergi menyampaikan khabar itu kepada Raja Daud Kata mereka kepada Daud Bersiaplah tuanku dan seberangilah sungai ini dengan segera kerana begini begitulah yang dinasihatkan Ahitofel mengenai tuanku

Sementara itu setelah Ahitofel melihat bahawa nasihatnya tidak dituruti dia pun memasang pelana keldainya bersiap-siap lalu pulang ke rumahnya ke kotanya Dia membereskan urusan rumah tangganya kemudian menggantung diri dan mati Lalu dia dikebumikan di dalam kubur ayahnya
