Akan tetapi para pembesar bani Amon berkata kepada Hanun tuan mereka Adakah tuanku sangka Daud hendak memberikan penghormatan kepada ayah tuanku sehingga dia mengutus orang untuk menyampaikan takziah kepada tuanku Bukankah Daud mengutus para pegawainya kepada tuanku untuk menyiasat kota ini untuk mengintip dan menggulingkannya

Ketika masih hidup Absalom pernah mengangkut dan mendirikan sebuah tugu baginya yang terletak di Lembah Raja kerana katanya Aku tidak mempunyai anak lelaki untuk menegakkan namaku Maka dinamainya tugu itu berdasarkan namanya sendiri Sampai hari ini tugu itu disebut Tugu Peringatan Absalom
