Nama lelaki itu Nabal dan nama isterinya Abigail Wanita itu bijak dan cantik parasnya manakala suaminya seorang daripada bani Kaleb itu adalah kasar dan jahat kelakuannya

Kemudian Abigail segera mengambil dua ratus ketul roti dua kantung kulit berisi air anggur lima ekor domba yang telah diolah lima sukatan bertih bijirin seratus buah kuih kismis dan dua ratus buah kuih ara Dimuatnya semua itu di atas beberapa ekor keldai

Apabila Abigail melihat Daud dia segera turun dari keldainya lalu sujud di hadapan Daud dan memberi hormat

Sesampainya Abigail di tempat Nabal tampak Nabal sedang mengadakan jamuan di rumahnya seperti jamuan seorang raja Hatinya senang dan dia sangat mabuk Oleh sebab itu Abigail tidak bercerita sepatah kata pun kepadanya sampai fajar menyingsing

Apabila Daud mendengar bahawa Nabal sudah mati berkatalah dia Segala puji bagi Tuhan yang telah membela aku dalam perkara penghinaan Nabal terhadap aku dan yang telah mencegah hamba-Nya daripada melakukan kejahatan Tuhan telah melantun balik kejahatan Nabal kepada dirinya sendiri Lalu Daud mengutus orang untuk berbicara dengan Abigail perihal maksud Daud melamar dia untuk menjadi isterinya

Anak buah Daud pun menemui Abigail di Karmel lalu berkata kepadanya Daud mengutus kami kepada puan untuk melamar puan menjadi isterinya

Abigail segera bersiap lalu dia menunggang seekor keldai dengan diiringi lima orang dayangnya Dia mengekori para utusan Daud lalu menjadi isterinya

Maka menetaplah Daud berserta anak buahnya serta keluarga masing-masing dengan Akhis di Gat Daud dengan kedua-dua orang isterinya yakni Ahinoam perempuan Yizreel dan Abigail bekas isteri Nabal perempuan Karmel itu
