Hati Daud sangat terusik dengan kata-kata itu lalu dia menjadi sangat takut kepada Akhis raja Gat itu

Kata Akhis kepada para pegawainya Tengoklah orang ini gila Mengapa kamu membawa dia kepadaku

Bersiap-siaplah Daud lalu bersama-sama enam ratus orangnya Daud segera menyeberang ke daerah Akhis anak Maokh raja Gat

Maka menetaplah Daud berserta anak buahnya serta keluarga masing-masing dengan Akhis di Gat Daud dengan kedua-dua orang isterinya yakni Ahinoam perempuan Yizreel dan Abigail bekas isteri Nabal perempuan Karmel itu

Daud berkata kepada Akhis Jika tuanku berkenan pada hamba berilah hamba tempat di salah sebuah kota di padang supaya hamba dapat tinggal di sana Mengapakah hambamu ini harus tinggal bersama-sama tuanku di kota kerajaan

Maka pada hari itu Akhis mengurniakan Ziklag kepadanya Itulah sebabnya Ziklag menjadi milik raja-raja Yehuda sampai hari ini

Apabila Daud memusnahkan negeri itu tiada seorang pun yang dibiarkannya hidup baik lelaki mahupun perempuan Dia menjarah domba lembu keldai unta dan pakaian kemudian pulanglah dia semula kepada Akhis

Tetapi Akhis mempercayai Daud kerana fikirnya Tentulah dia telah membuat diri dibenci dalam kalangan bangsanya orang Israel Oleh itu dia akan menjadi hambaku buat selama-lamanya

Pada masa itu orang Filistin mengerahkan pasukan mereka untuk berperang melawan Israel Kata Akhis kepada Daud Ketahuilah baik-baik engkau dan anak buahmu harus mara bersama-samaku dalam angkatan tentera ini

Lalu para panglima orang Filistin berkata Apakah urusan kumpulan orang Ibrani ini Jawab Akhis kepada para panglima orang Filistin Bukankah ini Daud hamba Saul raja Israel yang sudah bersama-samaku berhari-hari dan bertahun-tahun Sehingga kini pun aku dapati tiada apa-apa kesalahan pun padanya sejak dia membelot sampai hari ini

Maka Akhis memanggil Daud dan berkata kepadanya Demi Tuhan yang hidup engkau memang tulus hati Aku juga memandang baik pergerakanmu bersama-samaku dalam pasukan dan aku tidak mendapati kesalahan padamu sejak engkau datang kepadaku sampai hari ini Namun demikian para raja kota itu tidak berkenan kepadamu

Akan tetapi setelah tiga tahun berlalu dua orang hamba Simei lari kepada Akhis anak Maakha raja Gat Kepada Simei dikhabarkan Ketahuilah hamba-hamba tuan ada di Gat

Simei pun segera memelanai keldainya dan pergi ke Gat ke tempat Akhis untuk mencari hamba-hambanya itu Lalu Simei pulang dan membawa hamba-hambanya kembali dari Gat
