Kemudian dengan membawa upah bagi penelahan mereka berangkatlah tua-tua Moab dan Midian lalu sampainya mereka di tempat Bileam maka mereka pun menyampaikan pesan Balak kepadanya

Akan tetapi orang Israel berbuat jahat lagi di mata Tuhan lalu Tuhan menyerahkan mereka ke dalam tangan bani Midian selama tujuh tahun

Mereka juga berjaya menawan dua orang raja Midian iaitu Oreb dan Zeeb Oreb dibunuh di batuan Oreb dan Zeeb dibunuh di tempat pemerah anggur Zeeb Mereka mengejar orang Midian dan membawa kepala Oreb dan kepala Zeeb kepada Gideon di seberang Sungai Yordan

Zebah dan Salmuna melarikan diri namun Gideon mengejar dan berjaya menawan kedua-dua orang raja Midian iaitu Zebah dan Salmuna serta menumpaskan seluruh tentera musuh itu

Berkatalah orang Israel kepada Gideon Jadilah pemerintah kami baik engkau mahupun anakmu dan cucumu kerana engkaulah yang telah menyelamatkan kami daripada kuasa orang Midian

Adapun jumlah berat anting-anting emas yang dimintanya itu seribu tujuh ratus syikal emas namun ada lagi perhiasan bentuk bulan sabit perhiasan telinga dan pakaian kain warna ungu yang dipakai oleh raja-raja Midian dan belum terhitung kalung pada leher unta-unta mereka
