Apabila engkau mengepung sesebuah kota selama beberapa hari dan kemudian memeranginya untuk merebutnya jangan kaurosakkan pokok-pokok dengan kapak Makanlah buahnya tetapi jangan tebang pokok-pokok itu Pokok-pokok di ladang bukan manusia sehingga semuanya harus turut kaukepung

Tetapi pokok yang kauketahui bukan pokok yang dapat dimakan buahnya boleh kaurosakkan dan kautebang untuk mendirikan pagar pengepungan terhadap kota yang berperang melawanmu sampai tertakluknya kota itu
