Deuteronomy 8:2

Ingatlah seluruh perjalanan yang kamu tempuh dalam pimpinan Tuhan Allahmu di gurun selama empat puluh tahun ini Melalui semua itu Dia bermaksud untuk merendahkan hatimu menguji kamu dan mengetahui apa yang ada dalam hatimu sama ada kamu mahu berpegang teguh pada segala perintah-Nya atau tidak

Deuteronomy 8:3

Dia merendahkan hatimu membiarkan kamu lapar dan memberi kamu makan manna iaitu makanan yang belum pernah dikenali baik oleh kamu mahupun oleh nenek moyangmu supaya kamu sedar bahawa manusia hidup bukan dengan roti sahaja tetapi dengan setiap firman yang keluar daripada mulut Tuhan

Deuteronomy 8:16

dan Dia jugalah yang telah memberi kamu makan manna di gurun iaitu makanan yang belum pernah dikenal oleh nenek moyangmu Maksud semua itu ialah untuk merendahkan hatimu serta menguji kamu sehingga akhirnya membuahkan kebaikan bagimu
