Dinamainya tempat itu Masa dan Meriba kerana di sana orang Israel berbantah-bantah dan mencubai Tuhan dengan berkata Hadirkah Tuhan dalam kalangan kita atau tidak

Deuteronomy 6:16

Janganlah engkau menduga Tuhan Allahmu seperti engkau menduga Dia di Masa
