Esther 3:7

Pada bulan pertama iaitu bulan Nisan pada tahun kedua belas zaman Raja Ahasyweros Haman menyuruh orang membuang pur iaitu mencabut undi di hadapannya untuk menentukan hari dan bulan Undi itu terjatuh pada bulan kedua belas iaitu bulan Adar

Esther 3:13

Surat-surat itu dikirimkan ke seluruh wilayah kerajaan melalui para utusan pantas Isinya ialah perintah untuk memusnahkan membunuh dan menghapuskan semua orang Yahudi sama sekali daripada yang muda sampai yang tua termasuk kanak-kanak dan kaum wanita dalam satu hari iaitu pada hari ketiga belas pada bulan kedua belas bulan Adar dan untuk merampas harta benda mereka

Hal itu hendaklah dilakukan dalam satu hari di seluruh wilayah Raja Ahasyweros iaitu pada hari ketiga belas pada bulan kedua belas bulan Adar

Maka pada hari ketiga belas pada bulan kedua belas iaitu bulan Adar apabila berkuat kuasanya perintah dan titah raja musuh orang Yahudi berharap akan berkuasa atas mereka Namun begitu hal yang sebaliknya terjadi kerana orang Yahudi pula berkuasa atas pihak-pihak yang memusuhi mereka

Orang Yahudi yang tinggal di Susan berkumpul pula pada hari keempat belas pada bulan Adar dan membunuh tiga ratus orang di Susan tetapi mereka tidak merampas harta benda musuh mereka

Peristiwa itu terjadi pada hari ketiga belas pada bulan Adar Mereka berhenti pada hari keempat belas pada bulan itu dan menjadikannya hari untuk mengadakan jamuan serta keraian

Itulah sebabnya orang Yahudi di luar kota iaitu penduduk kampung-kampung tidak bertembok menjadikan hari keempat belas pada bulan Adar sebagai hari keraian dan jamuan hari yang baik untuk saling mengirim makanan
