Pada masa itu ketika Mordekhai duduk di pintu gerbang istana raja dua orang sida raja iaitu Bigtan dan Teres yang menjaga pintu masuk kediaman diraja berkomplot untuk membunuh Raja Ahasyweros kerana sakit hati
