Namun begitu mata Allah mereka tertuju kepada tua-tua orang Yahudi sehingga mereka tidak dikerah untuk menghentikan kerja sampai laporan diterima oleh Darius dan kemudian dibalas dengan kiriman surat jawapan tentang hal itu

Beginilah jawapan yang diberikan mereka kepada kami Kami hamba Allah semesta langit dan bumi dan kami sedang membina semula bait yang telah dibina bertahun-tahun yang lampau Seorang raja Israel yang agung dahulu membina dan menyelesaikannya

Akan tetapi kerana bangkitnya kemurkaan Allah semesta langit terhadap nenek moyang kami maka Dia menyerahkan mereka ke dalam tangan Nebukadnezar raja Babel orang Kasdim yang kemudian memusnahkan bait itu dan membuang bangsa itu ke Babel
