Tetapi kata Gedalya anak Ahikam kepada Yohanan anak Kareah Jangan lakukan hal itu kerana yang kaukatakan tentang Ismael itu bohong

Pada bulan ketujuh datanglah Ismael anak Netanya anak Elisama yang berketurunan raja dan seorang pembesar raja berserta sepuluh orang menghadap Gedalya anak Ahikam di Mizpa Ketika mereka sedang makan roti bersama-sama di Mizpa

tiba-tiba Ismael anak Netanya dan kesepuluh orang yang ada bersamanya menyerang Gedalya anak Ahikam anak Safan dengan pedang Demikianlah Ismael membunuh orang yang diangkat raja Babel menjadi pembesar negeri itu

Maka keluarlah Ismael anak Netanya dari Mizpa untuk menyongsong mereka Dia berjalan sambil menangis Apabila bertemu dengan mereka berkatalah dia kepada mereka Pergilah menghadap Gedalya anak Ahikam

Lalu Ismael menawan seluruh sisa rakyat yang ada di Mizpa iaitu puteri-puteri raja dan seluruh rakyat yang masih tinggal di Mizpa yang diserahkan ke dalam pengawasan Gedalya anak Ahikam oleh Nebuzaradan kepala pasukan pengawal Ismael anak Netanya menawan mereka dan pergi menyeberang ke daerah bani Amon

Kemudian Yohanan anak Kareah dan semua panglima pasukan yang menyertainya mengumpulkan kesemua saki-baki rakyat dari Mizpa yang direbutnya kembali daripada Ismael anak Netanya setelah Ismael membunuh Gedalya anak Ahikam kaum lelaki para pejuang kaum perempuan anak-anak dan para pegawai istana yang dibawanya kembali dari Gibeon
