Kepada pesuruh itu dia mengamanatkan demikian Setelah engkau selesai menyampaikan segala hal ehwal peperangan ini kepada raja

Maka pergilah pesuruh itu Setelah tiba diberitahunya kepada Daud segala sesuatu yang diamanatkan Yoab kepadanya

Kata pesuruh itu kepada Daud Sesungguhnya orang itu lebih kuat daripada kami dan mereka keluar menyerang kami di padang Namun demikian kami melawan mereka sampai ke muka pintu gerbang

Kemudian berkatalah Daud kepada pesuruh itu Beginilah harus kaukatakan kepada Yoab Janganlah susah hatimu kerana hal itu kerana pedang memang makan korban entah yang ini atau yang itu Perhebatlah peperanganmu untuk melawan kota itu dan runtuhkanlah Engkau juga harus menguatkan hatinya

Pada waktu itu Elisa sedang duduk-duduk di rumahnya bersama dengan para tua-tua Raja mengutus seorang berjalan mendahuluinya Akan tetapi sebelum pesuruh itu sampai di hadapan Elisa berkatalah Elisa kepada para tua-tua itu Tahukah kamu bahawa anak si pembunuh itu menyuruh orang untuk memenggal kepalaku Perhatikan tutuplah pintu dan tahanlah pesuruh itu di pintu ketika dia datang Bukankah bunyi langkah kaki tuannya terdengar di belakangnya

Pada waktu dia sedang bercakap dengan mereka tampaklah pesuruh itu datang menemuinya Raja pun berkata Sesungguhnya malapetaka ini berasal daripada Tuhan Apa gunanya aku berharap kepada Tuhan lagi
