Sejurus sahaja melihat anaknya Yefta mengoyakkan bajunya sambil berkata Wahai anakku engkau membuat hatiku hancur luluh dan engkaulah yang membawa petaka kepadaku Aku telah membuka mulut dan bernazar kepada Tuhan dan tidak dapat kutarik balik kata-kataku

Pada masa dahulu ketika Saul menjadi raja atas kami tuankulah yang memimpin pergerakan orang Israel Tuhan pun telah berfirman kepada tuanku Engkaulah yang akan menggembala umat-Ku Israel dan engkaulah yang akan menjadi pemimpin atas orang Israel

Kayu yang selebihnya dibuatnya jadi berhala iaitu patung ukirannya lalu dia sujud menyembah dan berdoa kepadanya katanya Tolonglah aku kerana engkaulah tuhanku
