Sebabnya ketika keluar dari Mesir orang Israel melintasi gurun sampai ke Laut Merah dan tiba di Kadesh

Kemudian mereka melintasi gurun lalu mengelilingi Tanah Edom dan Tanah Moab dan sampai di sebelah timur Tanah Moab Mereka berkhemah di seberang Sungai Arnon tetapi tidak masuk daerah Moab kerana Sungai Arnon ialah sempadan daerah Moab
